If you want to be on call when the conditions are good the deposit is $500.00. We will fit you in between regularly booked clients. Many times after a good snow we can take 2 or 3 lions. You will be entitled to two calls. If you do not respond to either call the deposit is forfeited. Our fee for a 5-day lion hunt in Colorado or New Mexico will be $3950.00. A ten-day hunt is $6500.00. The deposit required to book a hunt is 50%. We have dates available in December, January and February.
The 07/08 season will be remembered for too much snow. The snows came all at once, and the lions were snowbound! Then there was no snow after February 15th. From that date thru March 31 only frozen ice and/or melting snow and mud. Dry dirt is much easier to trail a lion on but that wasn't seen until 2-3 weeks after the season's closure. Last season did not offer a lot of really good days; however, 3 times we called various hunters who could not come. One time, we called 4 different hunters, none of whom were available. The next day we hunted anyway and could have taken a very large male. We did have 6 clients who took lions and we did win the Colorado Outfitters Mountain Lion Best of Species competition one more time. Each year we are contacted by hunters who state in one manner or another that, I am only going to hunt lion one time and I really want a big Tom. Ok, here is the reality: The west now has more weekend hunters with their own dogs, quotas that may be filled (thus closing the season before you can come) and more young outfitters who may promise you the moon. Many of these premier outfitters seldom if ever take a Boone & Crockett qualifier. Our record is good. We have 32 lions in the SCI record book, more than any outfitter in the United States and that includes the #1 Lion. We have taken 13 all time Boone & Crockett lions (over 15). We have taken 42 over the 14- inch mark that it takes to qualify for the Boone & Crockett 3 year awards period book. The Boone & Crockett 2001-2003 period first place award went to one of our clients. We collected the 2004-2006 Boone & Crockett award for 2nd place and was the largest lion entered from the United States. We have won the Colorado Outfitters Associations Best of Species contest, Mountain Lion category; 7 of the past 8 years. In 1985 we took the New Mexico state record lion, which held until 1996. It is now number 2. In 2001 we took the present Colorado State record lion that broke a state record set in 1901 by Teddy Roosevelt. So, we know what a big lion is. We also know something about odds, timing, effort and lady luck. It isn't getting any easier and the expenses of hunting lion are more than ever. |
